About Miki Hobby
Hi, I’m Miki—a longtime figure collector, customizer, photographer, and the person behind Miki Hobby.
My interest in figures began as a personal hobby, but over the years it gradually grew into something much larger. I became increasingly interested not only in collecting figures, but also in examining how they are made, comparing different releases, matching head sculpts with bodies, assembling custom characters, and photographing the finished results.
A Collector’s Perspective
I mainly collect 1/6-scale figures, although interesting 1/12-scale releases occasionally find their way into my collection as well. Over the years, I have handled products from established brands, independent studios, and many third-party manufacturers.
I try to approach every figure from the perspective of an experienced collector rather than a salesperson. A beautiful prototype does not always become a great production figure, and an expensive release is not automatically better than a cheaper one.
If something is impressive, I will explain why. If something is disappointing, I will talk about that too.
What You’ll Find on Miki Hobby
This website is where I can explore subjects in greater detail than I sometimes can in a video.
Here you will find:
- Reviews and Unboxings featuring personal, in-hand impressions of newly released figures.
- Custom Projects combining different head sculpts, bodies, outfits, and accessories.
- Miki’s Watchlist, featuring upcoming figures that have genuinely caught my attention.
- Collector Guides based on practical experience with figure bodies, skin tones, rooted hair, silicone materials, clothing, maintenance, and customization.
- Comparisons between competing releases, different body types, and alternative interpretations of the same character.
- Figure Photography created with my Sony camera, along with occasional behind-the-scenes notes about lighting, posing, and presentation.
This is not intended to be a website that covers every new announcement. I would rather spend time on figures that I find genuinely interesting and share observations that may be useful to other collectors.
Photography and Custom Figures
Photography is an important part of this hobby for me. After completing a custom figure or opening a particularly interesting release, I can easily spend half a day adjusting the pose, lighting, camera angle, and background.
