JKtoys K-011 Carys C+ In-Hand Review: What Collectors Should Know
JKtoys K-011 Carys C+ In-Hand Review: What Collectors Should Know
The JKtoys K-011 Carys C+ is a 1/6 scale female head sculpt featuring long rooted hair and a pair of glasses. For this project, I paired the head with a Verycool VCD-03A Pale Skin body and a premium office outfit to create an elegant secretary-style custom figure.
Rather than simply showing the finished figure, I wanted to share my actual experience with the product: what the head sculpt looks like in hand, how good the paintwork really is, how it compares with i8toys, and what it was like assembling and photographing the complete figure.
All the photographs in this article were taken by me using my Sony camera. What I originally expected to be a quick photo session eventually kept me occupied for almost half a day.

Parts Used for This Custom Figure
For this secretary custom figure, I used the following parts:
- Head sculpt: JKtoys K-011 Carys C+
- Body: Verycool VCD-03A Pale Skin
- Hair: Long rooted hair
- Accessory: Glasses
- Outfit: Premium 1/6 scale office outfit
- Scale: 1/6 scale
- Custom style: Secretary / office lady
The head, body and clothing were selected separately. This is not a complete boxed figure sold by JKtoys.

First Impressions of the JKtoys K-011 Carys C+
My first impression of Carys was positive. The head sculpt has a mature face and a calm expression that works well for modern civilian characters.
The long rooted hair and glasses naturally suggested an office-lady or secretary theme, which is why I decided to combine the head with a formal outfit.
The head looks attractive from the front, but I think it looks best from a slight three-quarter angle. From that angle, the shape of the face, the glasses and the way the hair falls around the shoulders work together particularly well.
It does not need an elaborate costume or many accessories to create a recognizable character. A simple office outfit is already enough to give it a strong personality.
How Good Is the Paintwork?
The paint quality on my JKtoys K-011 Carys C+ is quite good, but I would not describe it as exceptional.
From a normal viewing distance, the face looks clean and attractive. The eyebrows, eyes and lips are painted well enough, and I did not notice any major issue that ruined the overall appearance.
However, when viewed closely or photographed with a dedicated camera, the difference between JKtoys and higher-end manufacturers becomes more noticeable.
Compared with i8toys, the paintwork on this JKtoys head is still behind. i8toys generally produces more refined facial paint, smoother transitions and a more convincing sense of realism. The eyes and skin details on an i8toys head also tend to look more lifelike in close-up photographs.
JKtoys does not quite reach that level here.
That said, this does not mean the Carys head looks bad. When judging the head as a whole—including the facial sculpt, rooted hair, glasses and overall character design—I still think it is very beautiful.
Its appeal comes from the complete appearance rather than the paintwork alone. Once the hair is arranged, the glasses are positioned and the head is placed on a suitable body, the final result becomes much more impressive than an extremely close inspection of the paint might suggest.

Long Rooted Hair
The C+ version comes with long rooted hair, which gives collectors more styling freedom than sculpted hair.
Before taking photos, I spent quite a bit of time arranging the hair around the face and shoulders. A few loose strands in the wrong position can cover the eyes, become caught in the glasses or make the hairstyle appear untidy.
Rooted hair also behaves differently in every pose. Turning the head or moving the shoulders can change how the hair falls, so it often needs to be adjusted again between photographs.
This takes more time, but it is also part of the appeal. The hair gives Carys a softer and more natural appearance, particularly when photographed from the side or at a three-quarter angle.
Collectors should handle it gently and avoid unnecessary brushing or pulling. I prefer to use my fingers or a very small styling tool to move only the strands that need adjustment.

Glasses and the Secretary Look
The glasses are one of the details that give this head sculpt its personality.
Without them, Carys could easily be used for many different types of modern female characters. With the glasses, however, she immediately looks more like a secretary, executive assistant or office worker.
The glasses should be positioned carefully because the frame can become caught in the rooted hair. I adjusted the hair first and added the glasses afterward. This made it easier to keep the lenses visible and the frame sitting correctly on the face.
Although they are only a small accessory, the glasses make a noticeable difference to the finished custom figure.

Using the Verycool VCD-03A Pale Skin Body
For the body, I used the Verycool VCD-03A in Pale Skin.
The pale skin tone works reasonably well with the JKtoys head and the body proportions suit the style I wanted to create. Once fully dressed, the combination looks balanced and natural to me.
The VCD-03A also provided the proportions needed for the office outfit. The shoulders and waist create a clean silhouette without making the head look too large or too small.
As with most custom figure combinations, the skin tone may not appear completely identical under every type of lighting. Differences can become more visible in very bright or direct light, but with the complete outfit in place, I do not find the variation distracting.
The Premium Office Outfit—and the Dress That Somehow Fit
I selected a premium office outfit to complete the secretary appearance. The fitted design works particularly well with the glasses and long rooted hair.
The most surprising part of assembling this figure was the dress.
At first, I genuinely did not think it would fit the Verycool VCD-03A body. The dress looked very narrow, and there did not seem to be enough room to pull it up over the hips in the usual way.
I eventually removed the head and carefully passed the body through the dress’s neck opening, sliding the dress down from the neck and shoulders.
I had to work slowly because both the opening and the fitted waist were tight. Forcing it could have damaged the fabric, seams or body. To my surprise, however, the dress eventually passed over the shoulders and fitted the VCD-03A body properly.
Once it was in place, the fit was much better than I expected. The tight cut created the clean, formal silhouette I wanted for the secretary theme.
It was probably the most difficult part of assembling the custom figure, but it was also the moment when the character finally came together.
Collectors attempting a similar combination should proceed carefully and avoid pulling too hard on the fabric. A dress that technically fits can still be damaged if too much force is applied to the seams.
Photographing Carys with My Sony Camera
After completing the figure, I prepared my Sony camera and lighting setup to take a few photographs for the article.
At least, that was the original plan.
Once I started photographing her, I became completely absorbed in the process. I kept changing the poses, adjusting the hair, repositioning the glasses and experimenting with different camera angles.
A small turn of the head could change the expression of the figure. Moving a few strands of hair could make the portrait look more formal, softer or more natural. Sometimes I thought I had finished, only to notice another angle that I wanted to photograph.
The short session eventually lasted almost half a day.
Carys photographs especially well from three-quarter angles. The long hair adds depth around the face, while the glasses draw attention to the eyes. The fitted office dress also creates a clean silhouette in full-body photographs.
By the end of the session, I had taken far more pictures than I originally intended—but choosing only a few favorites was surprisingly difficult.
All the images shown here are photographs of the actual product and custom figure in my collection. They are not manufacturer prototypes or promotional photos.
The colors may vary slightly depending on the lighting, camera settings and display. I have tried to keep the photographs as close as possible to how the figure appears in person.
Final Thoughts
The JKtoys K-011 Carys C+ is not perfect.
Its paintwork is quite good, but it is still noticeably behind i8toys when examined closely. Collectors expecting the same level of refinement and realism as a premium i8toys head may find the finish less impressive.
However, paint quality is only one part of the complete product.
When I look at the head as a whole—the facial sculpt, expression, long rooted hair and glasses—I still find it very beautiful. It also has enough personality to inspire a complete custom character rather than simply being another generic female head sculpt.
Combined with the Verycool VCD-03A Pale Skin body and premium office outfit, Carys became exactly the kind of secretary figure I wanted to create.
The difficult process of fitting the dress and the hours spent arranging and photographing the figure made this project more memorable for me. It was not a perfect or effortless build, but I am very happy with how the finished figure looks.
