VeryCool VCD-05 and VCD-06: Are the New 1/6 Seamless Bodies Actually Better?
VeryCool VCD-05 and VCD-06: Are the New 1/6 Seamless Bodies Actually Better?
VeryCool has quietly become one of the most interesting alternatives in the 1/6 seamless female body market.
For years, TBLeague was the obvious name whenever collectors talked about seamless bodies. But VeryCool’s VCD series has gradually built its own following, especially among collectors who want softer body proportions, realistic skin texture, removable feet, or simply something different from the familiar TBLeague silhouette.
I have personally used several VeryCool bodies for my own 1/6 custom figures, including the VCD-01, VCD-02, and VCD-03 series.
So when the newer VCD-05 and VCD-06 appeared, the question that immediately interested me was not simply:
“Do they look better?”
The more important question was:
Has VeryCool actually improved the body underneath the silicone?
Because with seamless bodies, appearances are only half the story.
A beautiful body with weak joints, inconsistent internal skeleton tension, poor balance, or long-term durability problems quickly becomes frustrating once you actually start using it.
After looking at collector experiences, comparing specifications, studying photos, and following feedback from people who have handled these newer bodies, I think the answer is fairly interesting.
The VCD-05 and VCD-06 do appear to represent genuine improvements.
But they are not necessarily replacements for the older VCD bodies.
And depending on the type of custom figure you are building, an older VCD-01 or VCD-03 may still be the better choice.
The Biggest Problem With Early VeryCool Bodies Wasn’t the Silicone
One thing that deserves clarification is the material itself.
Some collectors assume that the newer VeryCool bodies must be using dramatically improved silicone compared with the early VCD-01 and VCD-02.
That does not appear to be the main difference.
Even the earlier VeryCool seamless bodies already used high-quality platinum silicone with a soft surface finish, realistic skin texture, and treatment designed to reduce stickiness and dust.
In my own experience, the silicone itself was never what made VeryCool interesting or problematic.
The real concern was the internal skeleton.
Some early owners reported issues such as joints becoming loose, limbs resisting poses, joints partially returning toward their previous position, or internal components eventually failing.
Not every VCD-01 or VCD-02 suffered from these problems.
That is important.
There are plenty of perfectly functional early VeryCool bodies still being used today.
But the inconsistency was enough that collectors started paying attention to production batches rather than simply looking at the model number.
And that is where the newer bodies become interesting.
VeryCool VCD-05: The Most Convincing Upgrade So Far
Of the newer designs, the VCD-05 is probably the one that interests me the most as a practical custom body.
VeryCool describes the VCD-05 as a muscular or bodybuilding-style female body, although I would personally describe it more as an athletic female physique.
It is fit.
It has visible muscle definition.
The shoulders, arms, abdomen, and legs have noticeably more structure than the softer VCD-01.
But it still looks feminine rather than exaggerated.
For characters such as Lara Croft, Cammy, Jill Valentine, female soldiers, warriors, fighters, or athletic game characters, I think this type of proportion makes much more sense than simply using a curvy body with a large bust.
The Internal Skeleton Appears to Be the Real Upgrade
This is probably the most important improvement.
The VCD-05 uses an internal skeleton that has reportedly gone through multiple revisions.
That may sound like boring technical information, but for collectors it matters far more than another millimeter of waist reduction.
A seamless figure body depends almost entirely on the skeleton hidden underneath the silicone.
The skeleton needs to do several things correctly:
- Hold a pose without slowly drifting
- Move smoothly without excessive resistance
- Maintain enough friction in the joints
- Survive repeated posing
- Support the weight of the silicone body
- Stay balanced when standing
The VCD-05 appears noticeably more mature in this area.
Collectors using the body have generally reported good balance and solid posing performance.
That does not automatically mean it will survive ten years of use.
No seamless body has been around long enough in its current form to answer that confidently.
But compared with the uncertainty surrounding some early VeryCool bodies, the VCD-05 feels like a company learning from previous generations rather than simply releasing another sculpt.
The VCD-05 Also Looks More Refined
There are several smaller improvements that become much more noticeable when you photograph figures up close.
Better Mold-Line Finishing
Seamless bodies are made in molds.
No matter how good the production process is, mold seams are always a potential problem.
On older bodies, you can sometimes see these lines running along the legs, torso, hips, or arms.
Under normal room lighting they may not be obvious.
Under a macro lens or strong photography lighting?
They suddenly become very obvious.
The VCD-05 appears to receive more finishing work around these areas, resulting in significantly finer seam lines.
For a collector who mostly displays figures behind glass, this may not matter very much.
For someone like me who regularly photographs custom figures, it absolutely matters.
Small surface imperfections become surprisingly distracting once you start shooting high-resolution close-ups.
Better Skin Detailing
Another improvement is the body painting.
VeryCool has added subtle vein detailing and additional coloration beneath the surface.
When done correctly, this gives the body more depth.
Real skin is not a single flat color.
You can see veins, slight redness around joints, subtle color differences around knees, elbows, hands, feet, and other areas.
A completely uniform silicone body can sometimes look like a mannequin.
VeryCool seems increasingly aware of this.
The result on the VCD-05 is not dramatic, but that is exactly why I like it.
Good body paint should not make you immediately think:
“Look at all those veins!”
It should simply make the figure feel less artificial.
The VCD-05 Still Has Weaknesses
Of course, being newer does not make it perfect.
The biggest issue is that the VCD-05 may not be muscular enough for collectors expecting a true bodybuilding physique.
The product name suggests something very muscular.
In reality, I would call it:
fit, toned, athletic, and moderately muscular.
Personally, I think that makes it more useful.
But if you are trying to create a heavily muscular female warrior, the VCD-05 may still feel too restrained.
Another limitation is the hand selection.
VeryCool includes more hands than on some earlier bodies, but the selection still feels somewhat incomplete for an athletic or combat-oriented body.
For this type of figure, I would love to see:
- Trigger hands
- Sword-gripping hands
- Stronger weapon-gripping hands
- Relaxed fists
- More neutral hands
A muscular body is naturally going to be used for action characters.
Giving it mostly elegant or neutral hand poses feels like a missed opportunity.
Removable Feet Are a Major Advantage
This is one area where I strongly prefer the VCD-05.
The feet are removable.
That sounds like a minor feature until you start building custom figures regularly.
Removable feet make footwear much easier.
You can use:
- Boots
- High heels
- Sneakers
- Tactical shoes
- Custom footwear
- Different ankle systems
More importantly, removable hard feet generally make standing easier.
For photography, this is extremely useful.
I dislike using display stands whenever I can avoid them because stands often ruin the illusion in photographs.
If I can pose a figure naturally and have it remain standing on its own, I will almost always choose that option.
The VCD-05 appears well suited to that style of use.
VeryCool VCD-06: Technically More Refined, But Much More Specialized
The VCD-06 is a very different body.
At first glance, some people may assume it is simply the next evolutionary step after the VCD-05.
I do not see it that way.
The VCD-06 feels more like a specialized design aimed at a particular visual style.
It has:
- Narrow shoulders
- A very small waist
- Long legs
- A large bust
- More stylized proportions
- Integrated silicone feet
This makes it potentially very attractive for certain anime and game characters.
But it also makes the body far less universal.
The VCD-06 Is Designed Around Smaller Heads
One of the most obvious differences is shoulder width.
The shoulders are noticeably narrow.
This can work very well with smaller anime-style head sculpts.
Many 1/6 female heads look slightly oversized when placed on broad-shouldered bodies.
A narrower body can make those heads appear much more proportional.
However, this creates another problem.
A realistic 1/6 head sculpt that looks perfect on a VCD-01 may suddenly look oversized on the VCD-06.
That means head compatibility becomes much more important.
This is not the kind of body I would buy simply because I might need it someday.
I would want to have the exact head sculpt in front of me first.
The VCD-06 Bust Will Be Either a Feature or a Problem
The chest is probably the most controversial part of the design.
The VCD-06 has a very large bust relative to its narrow shoulders and waist.
Some collectors will love that proportion.
Others will immediately reject it.
My issue is not simply that the bust is large.
There are already plenty of large-bust 1/6 bodies.
The bigger concern is how the bust interacts with clothing.
Large seamless breasts create several problems when customizing figures.
Tight outfits may stretch excessively.
Shirts may no longer close properly.
Jackets can sit unnaturally.
Armor pieces may not fit.
Outfits designed around a smaller body can become impossible to use.
And once you put clothing over the figure, that dramatic body shape may not even be visible anymore.
This is why I normally value versatile proportions more than exaggerated ones.
A body should help the costume look correct.
The costume should not have to fight the body.
Integrated Feet Are the Biggest VCD-06 Compromise
This is probably the main reason I personally would choose the VCD-05 over the VCD-06 for most customs.
The VCD-06 uses silicone-covered integrated feet.
Visually, they look beautiful.
For barefoot characters they can be excellent.
There is no visible ankle joint.
The silhouette from calf to foot is extremely clean.
But for actual figure use, integrated feet create several inconveniences.
The soft silicone soles make stable standing more difficult.
A display stand may become necessary.
Changing footwear becomes harder.
Some shoes will not fit at all.
And long-term pressure from tight footwear may potentially damage or deform the silicone.
For a dedicated barefoot character, I understand the choice completely.
For a general-purpose custom body?
I strongly prefer removable feet.
The VCD-06 May Have the Best Surface Finish Yet
Where the VCD-06 does impress me is exterior finishing.
The mold lines appear extremely subtle.
VeryCool has continued improving the finishing process around the seams, and on good examples the molding lines are very difficult to notice.
The skin detailing also remains excellent.
So purely from a manufacturing and presentation standpoint, the VCD-06 may actually be one of VeryCool’s most polished bodies so far.
This creates an interesting contradiction.
Technically, it may be more refined.
Practically, it may be less useful.
That is something collectors sometimes forget.
A more advanced product is not automatically a better product for every purpose.
What About the VCD-03?
I would not dismiss the VCD-03 just because newer numbers exist.
In fact, the VCD-03 remains one of the more useful VeryCool bodies for custom work.
Later production runs appear to benefit from some of the internal improvements VeryCool introduced after the earliest VCD bodies.
And depending on the character, the VCD-03 proportions may simply be better.
This is why I do not believe the VCD series should be viewed like smartphones:
VCD-06 > VCD-05 > VCD-03 > VCD-02 > VCD-01.
That would be far too simplistic.
The body number represents a different design more than a simple quality ranking.
A better way to think about it is:
Which body best matches the character I am building?
How I See the Current VeryCool Lineup
For my own custom work, I would roughly describe them this way.
VCD-01
Still one of the most versatile shapes.
Good proportions for many realistic female characters.
Easy to dress.
Generally easy to match with realistic head sculpts.
I would simply be more cautious with very early production examples because of the reported internal skeleton issues.
VCD-02
Useful depending on the exact version and character.
However, integrated-foot designs are less attractive to me personally because of posing and footwear limitations.
VCD-03
A very practical curvier body.
Still useful for many game and anime characters.
Later production examples appear more mature than the earliest VeryCool bodies.
I would absolutely continue using a good VCD-03 rather than replacing it simply because a VCD-05 or VCD-06 exists.
VCD-05
Probably my favorite of the newer designs.
Athletic proportions.
Improved skeleton.
Good balance.
Removable feet.
Refined body paint.
Improved mold-line finishing.
For action-oriented female characters, this may currently be one of VeryCool’s most useful bodies.
VCD-06
Potentially the most visually refined, but also the most specialized.
Narrow shoulders.
Large bust.
Tiny waist.
Long legs.
Integrated feet.
Excellent for the right anime or game character.
Much less suitable as a universal spare body.
Has VeryCool Finally Fixed the Skeleton?
This is probably the question most collectors really want answered.
My answer right now would be:
It appears significantly improved, but it is still too early to call the problem permanently solved.
The VCD-05 and VCD-06 are still relatively new.
Internal skeleton failures often do not appear immediately.
A body may feel perfect during the first month.
The real test is what happens after:
- Hundreds of poses
- Repeated elbow and shoulder movement
- Long periods in bent poses
- Clothing pressure
- Heat and humidity
- Several years of display
That data simply does not exist yet.
The good news is that VeryCool clearly appears to be revising the internal structure rather than ignoring previous complaints.
That alone gives me more confidence in the newer releases.
But I would still avoid treating any seamless body as indestructible.
VeryCool vs TBLeague Is Becoming a More Interesting Competition
For a long time, TBLeague had one enormous advantage:
Proven reliability.
Collectors knew what they were getting.
VeryCool, on the other hand, offered some very attractive proportions and excellent silicone finishing, but there were more questions surrounding internal durability.
With the newer VCD bodies, that gap seems to be narrowing.
VeryCool has become particularly interesting for collectors who want:
- More realistic female proportions
- Softer body shapes
- Different shoulder widths
- Smaller frames
- Better compatibility with certain Asian head sculpts
- More detailed skin coloration
TBLeague still has an extremely strong position because its stainless-steel skeleton system has years of real-world collector experience behind it.
But I no longer see VeryCool as simply the cheaper alternative.
It is becoming its own platform.
Which One Would I Buy?
If I were choosing between the VCD-05 and VCD-06 without having a specific project planned, I would choose the:
VCD-05.
It is simply more versatile.
The removable feet alone make it significantly easier to use.
The athletic proportions also work with a surprisingly wide range of characters.
I can imagine using it for:
Lara Croft, Cammy, Jill Valentine, female soldiers, fantasy warriors, action heroines, athletic anime characters, and various original custom figures.
The VCD-06 is different.
I would only buy it after choosing the head sculpt and costume.
If the proportions match the character, the result could look excellent.
But I would not keep several VCD-06 bodies in a drawer waiting for future projects.
It is too specialized for that.
Final Thoughts
VeryCool has clearly improved since the early VCD-01 and VCD-02 generation.
The biggest progress is not some completely new miracle silicone.
It is the refinement of everything around it:
internal skeleton design, joint stability, mold finishing, body paint, proportions, and overall production maturity.
The VCD-05 is probably the clearest example of these improvements coming together in a genuinely useful body.
The VCD-06 pushes the exterior finishing further, but sacrifices versatility in exchange for a very specific stylized silhouette.
And that is why I would not call either body a direct replacement for the VCD-01, VCD-02, or VCD-03.
In 1/6 collecting, newer does not always mean better.
Sometimes the older body simply has the right shoulders.
The right hips.
The right height.
The right feet.
And most importantly, the right proportions for the character you are trying to build.
For me, that is still the most important rule when choosing a seamless body:
Choose the body for the character, not the body number on the box.
